Annual Meeting of Governors Begins Today!
Call Your Governor and Demand True Immigration Reform!!
Friday through Monday, the National Governors' Association (NGA) will be holding its annual meeting near Traverse City, Michigan. The meeting falls on the heels of the collapse of the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill in the U.S. Senate and days after Arizona's legislature passed a strict immigration law targeting employers who hire illegal aliens. Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, the current chair of the NGA, told reporters she expects immigration to be "a topic of conversation and action."
Interestingly, the location of the meeting is at a northern Michigan resort at which a raid turned up 20 illegal foreign workers last year. As reported by the Associated Press, the raid at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa near Traverse City led to federal charges against top officials at a nationwide janitorial service and the arrest of more than 200 illegal immigrants around the country. Some observers suggest that the selection of this resort cannot be a coincidence and is intended to set the tone for behind-the-scenes policy discussions.
With amnesty proposals temporarily set aside in Congress, NOW is the time to contact your state officials and make sure you have a voice in setting the state and local agenda.
Please call your governors TODAY and let them know you want TRUE immigration reform.
- Tell them you will no longer tolerate state laws and policies that give sanctuary to illegal aliens and encourage more illegal immigration.
- Urge them to follow the lead of states such as Georgia and Oklahoma that have passed tough, comprehensive immigration laws that go after employers who hire illegal aliens and restrict state and local benefits to those who are lawfully in the United States.
- If your governor supports TRUE immigration reform, please thank him/her and let them know you will continue to monitor what steps they take to address illegal immigration.
